Theede leads the way over Rock in final regular season game
Dawson Theede led the way with a hat trick and one helper as the Six Nations Chiefs defeated the Oakville Rock 10-6 Monday night on the road to finish off the Major Series Lacrosse regular season.
Theede and Nonkon Thompson gave the Chiefs an early lead before Ty English replied. Ryan Smith and Kaden Brennan exchanged goals to finish off the first period.
The Chiefs got off to another quick start in the second period thanks to Tim Edwards and Justin Martin. Former Chief Sam Leclair responded for the Rock before Theede added his second goal of the game. Bill Hostrawser, Lyle Thompson and Josh Dawick then exchanged goals to round out the scoring.
Eoin MacKay struck three minutes into the third period to make it a one-goal game. But the Chiefs had a big response, with Theede scoring his third goal, while Shayne Jackson and Brendan Bomberry added some insurance.
Doug Jamieson was busy between the pipes stopping 42 shots for the win. Landon Kells also had a busy night, making 43c saves in a valiant effort.
The Chiefs finish the MSL regular season in top spot with a 15-2 record. They will take on the fourth-seeded Owen Sound North Stars in a best-of-seven MSL semifinal series that begins Thursday at 8pm at the ILA.
The Rock finish 5-11 and are in sixth place, two points behind teh Cobourg Kodiaks.
