Balanced attack lifts Chiefs over Excelsiors

 

A balanced attack led by another three goals from Ryan Smith led the Six Nations Chiefs to a 11-6 victory over the Brampton Excelsiors Tuesday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena in Major Series Lacrosse action.

Ian MacKay led the first-period charge with a pair of goals, while Randy Staats and Ryan Smith added singles. Finlay Thomson, who has led the Excelsiors in scoring this season had the lone response.

Ryan Smith then scored two more goals in the second period to net his eighth hat trick of the season. Dhane Smith, Justin Martin and Nonkon Thomson added to the lead before Dalen Burning netted his first career MSL goal. Coltrane Tyson and Eric Ward scored for the visitors.

The Excelsiors didn't go away, scoring three goals in the third period to give them some much needed momentum heading into its next contest. Caiden Merritt, Jacob Janke and Neal Adamson scored the goals. 

Doug Jamieson made 43 csaves for the win, while Connor O'Toole stopped 47 shots for the Excelsiors.

The Chiefs still sit at the top of MSL with a 14-2 record. With two games remaining in the regular season, they host the Brooklin Lacrosse Club Wednesday July 23 at 8pm.
