Chiefs win back-to-back MSL titles

 


The Six Nations Chiefs are Major Series Lacrosse champions for a second-straight season.

Justin Martin, Travis Longboat, Cody Jamieson and Dhane Smith each scored two goals, while Warren Hill slammed the door shut to lead the Chiefs to a 11-8 win over the Peterborough Lakers Tuesday at the PMC.

With the victory, the Chiefs win the best-of-seven MSL final 4-2.

The Chiefs got off to a great start with Longboat scoring a pair of goals and Larson Sundown adding one. After Colton Armstrong stopped the run the Chiefs struck two more times thanks to a pair from Martin. Joe Resetarits closed out the first-period scoring.

Thomas Hoggarth scored in the first minute of the second period before Jamieson and Thompson added to the Chiefs lead.

The Lakers made a big push in the third period. Hoggarth and Turner Evans led the way with two goals each, while Owen Hiltz added one. Smith replied with a pair for the Chiefs, while Eli McLaughlin, and Jamieson nettted one each.

Hill made 52 stops to earn the win, while Landon Kells had 50 stops in a losing effort.

NOTES: Warren Hill and Doug Jamieson shared the Shooter Davis Award, given to the Most Valuable PLayer of the MSL playoffs. The Chiefs goalies have been fantastic between the pipes, sharing the duties.

The Chiefs will now take on the Victoria Shamrocks in the Mann Cup championship. That best-of-seven series between the MSL and Western Lacrosse Association champions begins Thursday September 5 at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
