Taylor Jensen's goal with just under six minutes to go in the third period gave the Peterborough Lakers a 9-8 victory over the Six Nations Chiefs in Game 1 of the Major Series Lacrosse final.

Shayne Jackson and Eli McLaughlin got the Chiefs off to a quick start, before Thomas Hoggarth and Cody Jamieson quickly exchanged goals. The Lakers then went on a run thanks to goals from Owen Hiltz, Joe Resetarits and Hoggarth, before Brendan Bomberry responded. Eric Shewell and Robert Hope capped the first-period scoring.

The defence buckled down in the second period, with Turner Evans and Rob Hellyer scoring for the Lakers, while Dhane Smith struck for the Chiefs.

Travis Longboat scored two goals to get the Chiefs within striking distance before Jensen scored the game-winner. Randy Staats got the Chiefs within one goal again, but Landon Kells kept the door shut in the Lakers crease.

Game 2 of the best-of-seven MSL final is Thursday in Peterborough at 8pm.
