Chiefs take care of business in sweep of North Stars
The Six Nations Chiefs made a statement in the first period and followed that all the way to a 12-6 victory over the Owen Sound North Stars Saturday afternoon at the Meaford-St. Vincent Community Centre.
With the win, the defending Mann Cup champs sweep the North Stars 4-0 in the best-of-seven Major Series Lacrosse semifinal.
Dhane Smith again showed why he's one of the premier goal scorers in the world, scoring four goals and two assists in the first period to lead the Chiefs to an 8-1 lead after 20 minutes. Ryan Smith bookended the eight-goal barrage with a pair of goals, while Shayne Jackson and Lyle Thompson added one each.
MSL Most Valuable Player Jackson Webster scored the lone North Stars marker.
the home team settled in through the second period, with Mitch Gustavsen and Tanner Buck scoring to inch their team closer. But Jackson and Josh Byrne counter punched late in the frame.
Thompson and Byrnecontinued to pour it on for the Chiefs in the third period, before Tyller Halls, Hayden Summers-Thompson and Brayden Mayea gave the home crowd something to cheer about.
Doug Jamieson wasvery sharp in hte win between the pipes.
The Chiefs now wait for the winner of the other MSL semifinal. Currently Brooklin Lacrosse Club leads the best-of-seven series against the Peterborough Lakers 3-2. GAme6 isWednesday night in Whitby,
