Chiefs break out in the third period to take Game 2



 


 

Four goals in the third period gave the Six Nations Chiefs a 12-9 win over the Owen Sound North Stars Tuesday night in Meaford.

With the scored tied 8-8 heading into the final frame, Brayden Mayea gave the North Stars another lead early. But Matt Marinier stripped the ball in his own end and scored down at the other to tie things up, before Nonkon Thompson scored the winner with less than seven minutes to go in regulation. Larson Sundown and Dhane Smith added some insurance.

In the first period, Josh Byrne scored two goals to lead the Chiefs, while Dhane Smith, Ryan Smith and Steve Priolo added singles. Tanner Buck, Mayea, Xander Derkatz, and Jackson Webster responded for the North Stars.

Buck scored his second and third of the game in the second period, while Mayea also added a pair.  Lyle Thompson, Dawson Theede and Marinier scored for the Chiefs.

Doug Jamieson got the win between the pipes, while Andrew Kidd took the loss.

The Chiefs now lead the best-of-seven Major Series Lacrosse semifinal series 2-0. Game 3 is 8pm Thursday at the ILA.
