Lakers extend MSL final with win at home

 


Ryan Smith scored a hat trick, but it wasn't enough, as the Peterborough Lakers extended the Major Series Lacrosse final with a 9-8 win over the Six Nations Chiefs at the Peterborough Memorial Centre on Saturday night.

The Chiefs now lead the best-of-seven MSL final 3-1.

After Josh Byrne opened the scoring on the game;s first shot, Thomas Hoggarth and Joe Resetarits responded for the Lakers. Shayne Jackson and Dawson Theede also scored for the Chiefs, while Matt Gilray, Resetarits and Taite Cattoni gave the Lakers the lead.

Ryan Smith had a pair of second-period goals, while Jackson and Theede scored their second goals of the game. Braedon Saris led the Lakers with two goals, while Hoggarth and Mitch Ogilvie added to the Lakers lead.

Ryan Smith scored his third of the night in the third period, with he and his teammates threatening to tie the game. But Drew Hutchison came up big for the Lakers between the pipes, stopping 23 of his 55 shots in the final frame. Doug Jamieson made 41 stops in the loss.

Game 5 of the series is back at Six Nations Manday at 8pm at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
