Chiefs start to heat up with a pair of wins
There was no rest for the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs early this week. And if you asked any of them, they were more than alright with it.
The Chiefs rode the momentum of a 11-6 win over the Coburg Kodiaks Tuesday, before hitting the road Wednesday and coming away with a 9-7 victory over the Brooklin Lacrosse Club in Major Series Lacrosse action.
On Tuesday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, the Chiefs jumped out to a quick lead and didn't relinquish it en route to the victory over the Kodiaks, who were sitting at a very impressive 5-1 record prior to the game.
Brendan Bomberry celebrated his birthday week with a four-goal performance, while Randy Staats added three goals and three assists. Cody Jamieson took over the MSL lead in scoring thanks to his two goals and two helpers, while Marty Hill and Jeremy Thompson added one goal each.
Scott Dominey continued to wreak havoc on opposing goalies, scoring a pair for the Kodiaks, while Ben French, Colton Armstrong, Cam Simpson, and Mike Triolo added one goal each.
Doug Jamieson was rock solid between the pipes in the win.
Wednesday in Whitby, the Chiefs got another quick start, scoring three-straight to begin the game and never looked back in the 9-7 win.
Lyle Thompson led the offence with four goals and one helper, while Jamieson scored a pair. Dhane Smith and Ian Mackay pitched in with a goal each.
Connor Kearnan, Jeff Wittig, and Curtis Knight all scored two goals, with Dawson Theede netted one.
Doug Jamieson was again a factor, making several big stops to preserve the victory.
With the two wins, the Chiefs now sit at the top of the MSL standings with the Kodiaks. Both teams have 5-2 records, while the Peterborough Lakers and Oakville Rock sit only two points behind.
On Tuesday, the Chiefs will host the back half of the home-and-home set with Brooklin. Game time is 8pm at the ILA.
