Rock beat Chiefs in OT to punch ticket to MSL final
It's been a long time since the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs have not been in the Major Series Lacrosse final. Since 2011 in fact.
The Oakville Rock punched its first ticket to the league championship with a 9-7 overtime win over the Chiefs Tuesday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena. They win the best-of-seven semifinal series 4-2.
During the 10 minute overtime period, Dan Craig scored what would be the winning goal two minutes in, while Luc Magnan sealed it with an empty-net goal.
The two teams exchanged runs to get to overtime. In the first period, the Rock got two goals from Brad Gillies, while Wes Berg and Craig added singles. Randy Staats responded, scoring two of his four goals on the night.
The Chiefs bounced back in a big way in the second period, with Staates adding two more goals, while Cody Jamieson and Tyson Bell made the game even. Jeremy Noble was the lone Rock goal scorer.
In the third, both teams took it to each other, with Frank Brown and Challen Rogers scoring to force the extra frame.
It was another goaltending duel between Doug Jamieson and Nick Rose. Rose made 48 saves to get the win, while Jamieson was forced to make 54 stops.
