Chiefs have backs against the wall
For the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs to keep its Mann Cup aspirations alive, they have to bring it Wednesday.
Thanks to an 8-4 loss Monday to the Oakville Rock at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre, the Chiefs are now in a must win situation down 3-2 in the best-of-seven Major Series Lacrosse semifinal.
The two teams, like they have in much of the series, exchanged goals in
the first period. Shane Simpson ans Cody Jamieson scored for the Chiefs, while Andrew Kew and Wes Berg replied.
The Rock took the game over in the second period thanks to playing with the man advantage. Berg and Jeremy Noble scored three minutes apart midway through the frame on the powerplay, before Noble added a full strength goal four minutes later.
The Chiefs tried to respond in the third period, with Frank Brown and Randy Staats scoring goals. But the Rock put the game out of reach thanks to goals from Kew, Johnny Powless and Mitch DeSnoo.
Doug Jamieson was again great between the pipes for the Chiefs making 44 stops, while Nick Rose again had to be on top of his game to get the win in a 47-save effort.
The series returns to the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena Wednesday, when the teams reconvene for Game 6 at 8pm.
