Lakers come from behind to beat Chiefs
It wasn't the script the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs were hoping for in its Major Series Lacrosse home opener against the Peterborough Lakers.
After playing a great 30 minutes, the Chiefs were outscored 6-3 in the last half of the game as the Lakers came from behind to beat the Chiefs 8-7 in Major Series Lacrosse action Tuesday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
Holden Cattoni led the way for the Lakers scoring three goals and an assist, while Ian McKay scored twice to lead the Chiefs.
The Chiefs took a lead after 20 minutes thanks to goals from McKay, Randy Staats and Jordan Durston, while Kyle Buchanan and Cattoni responded for the Lakers.
The Lakers began to take control of things with goals from Cattoni, Chad Tutton and Shawn Evans, while McKay, Dhane Smith and Pat Corbet added goals for the Chiefs in the second period.
Cattoni, Corey Small and Mark Steenhuis then grabbed the lead for the Lakers, with a Shane Simpson goal late in the frame cut the lead for the Chiefs.
Doug Buchan got the win between the Lakers pipes, making 42 saves, while Doug Jamieson stopped 44 shots in the loss.
The two teams now head to Peterborough Thursday for the back half of hte home-and-home set at 8pm.
