Balanced attack gives Chiefs a 2-1 series lead in MSL final

 

A balanced attack, led by two goals each from Ryan Smith, Josh Byrne and Andrew Kew was enough for the Six Nations Chiefs to score a 12-9 win over the Peterborough Lakers Sunday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

With the victory, the chiefs lead the best-of-seven MSL final 2-1.

Byrne and Ryan Smith scored for the Chiefs in the first period. But it was the Lakers who had the hot start, playing a nearly perfect road first period. Rob Hellyer and Justin Sykes each netted goals to give the visitors a lead.

The Chiefs took advantage of teh fast break in the second period, scoring seven times to grab the lead. Cloutier and Shayne Jackson scored early before Thomas Hoggarth had a response. Kew scored twice, while Ryan Smith and Randy Staats added singles, before Braedon Saris got one back. Lyle Thompson put an exclamation mark on things to close out the second period.

The third period saw the two teams exchange goals. Byrne, Tyson Bell and Graeme Hossack scored for the Chiefs, while Hellyer, Ryan Lanchbury and Brad McCulley responded for the Lakers.

Doug Jamieson got the win between the pipes.

Game 4 of the series is back in Peterborough on Tuesday at 8pm.
