Short bench doesn't stop Chiefs

The Six Nations Chiefs had a shorter bench than usual, but that didn't stop the train from rolling to a 10-6 win over the Owen Sound North Stars Tuesday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

Xander Derkatz got the visitors off to a great start less than a minute in, before Josh Byrne scored his first of three on the night. Riley Ford and Josh Rosa then struck, to give the North Stars another lead, before Byrne and David Peterkin tied things up again. Derkatz netted his second of the period to give the North Stars another lead, before Conner Costigan and Dawson Theede scored to give the Chiefs the advantage.

Derkatz again got the North Stars going early in the second period with his third goal of the game, before Byrne responded with his third on the night. Dhane Smith scored the eventual game-winning goal, while Jeremy Searle and Peterkin exchanged markers.

With the lead, Brendan Bomberry and Theede scored to round out the scoring in the third period.

Doug Jamieson made 45 stops for the win, while Andrew Kidd made 65 stops in a losing effort.

The 13-0 Chiefs hit the road Wednesday to take on the Brooklin Lacrosse Club at 8pm.
