Chiefs clinch first place with win over Lakers




Brendan Bomberry showed why he is one of the leaders of the Six Nations Chiefs on Tuesday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
Bomberry, one of the Chiefs’ captains scored three and added five assists to lead his team to a 11-7 win over the Peterborough Lakers in the first half of a home-and-home set this week in Major Series Lacrosse action.
The Lakers drew first blood thanks to Holden Cattoni. But Austin Staats tied it up shorthanded with an underhanded shovel shot. Cattoni scored his second of the night before Dalton Sulver scored just 0:16 seconds later.
Jacob Garcia gave the Lakers the lead once again before Bomberry tied the game up on the power play. They then took the lead when Eric Fannell and Staats adding goals. 
Thomas Hoggarth scored once more for Peterborough before the end of the period to make it a one goal game.
Vaughn Harris opened the second period scoring for the Chiefs, but was answered back by Austin Hasen.  Paul Dawson then went end to end in transition to tie the game, before Harris scored his second of the night, followed by a Jordan Durston goal.
Bomberry continued his big night with another goal, followed by Sam Leclair marker. Jacob Garcia scored his second of the night for Peterborough to inch the Lakers closer. But Bomberry’s third of the night put the game out of reach.

NOTES: Doug Jamieson got the win making 33 saves, while Doug Buchan stopped 33 in a losing effort. The win clinches first place in the regular season for the Chiefs thanks to their 8-1-1 record. The Lakers drop to 5-4 and are battling for home floor advantage with the Brooklin Lacrosse Club. The same two teams meet Thursday at 8pm in Peterborough. That game will be available on YourTV and Rogers cable.
