Lakers need overtime to beat Chiefs

Taite Cattoni and Shawn Evans scored in overtime to give the Peterborough Lakers a 13-11 win over the Six Nations Chiefs at the Peterborough Memorial Centre Thursday.

The first period was an absolute shootout with Holden Cattoni, Kiel Matisz, Matt Gilray, Keaton Zavitz, Austin Hasen, Mark Matthews and Cory Vitarelli scoring for the Lakers. The Chiefs were certainly up to the task responding with Vaughn Harris and Austin Staats scoring a pair each, while Cody Jamieson and Jordan Goddard scored one.
In the second period, the Chiefs hunkered down at both ends and grabbed the lead thanks to Harris, Eric Fannell and Staats. Holden Cattoni had the lone Lakers reply.
The Lakers grabbed the momentum with goals from Vitarelli and Hasen, before Harris tied things up. Holden Cattoni gave the Lakers another lead with five minutes to go. But Liam Leclair tied things up again to force overtime with 37 seconds remaining in regulation.

NOTES: Doug Buchan made 49 saves for the win. Warren Hill made 45 stops in the loss. The Lakers improve to 6-4 and visit the Brooklin Lacrosse Club Wednesday at 8pm. The loss was the Chiefs first of the season. They are now 8-2-1 and wrap the regular season up at home Tuesday against the Cobourg Kodiaks at 8pm.
