Chiefs relentless offence sinks North Stars
The Six Nations Chiefs capped a demanding stretch of three games in four nights with a statement victory Sunday, rolling past the Owen Sound North Stars 14-5 in Major Series Lacrosse action at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
It was the third game in four days for the Chiefs, but fatigue was nowhere to be found as Ryan Smith led the charge with five goals, while Cody Jamieson turned in another veteran performance with two goals and six assists in a dominant effort.
Owen Sound opened the scoring midway through the first period when Jake McNabb struck to give the visitors a brief lead. But the Chiefs responded in a hurry, with Jamieson ripping a power-play marker to even things up before adding another to give the Chiefs a 2-1 lead after 20 minutes.
From there, it was all Chiefs.
The erupted for nine goals in the second period. Ryan Smith led the way with three goals, while Josh Byrne, Lyle Thompson, Ian MacKay, Davin Bomberry, Brendan Bomberry, and Dhane Smith also tallied in a relentless offensive stretch.
McNabb scored two more goals in response.
The offensive onslaught continued into the third period. with Ryan SMith adding two more, with Byrne scoring his second goal of the game, Jackson Webster scored for the North Stars.
Goaltender Warren Hill was rock-solid in net for the Chiefs, making 35 saves to earn the win. Owen Sound’s Andrew Kidd faced an overwhelming 59 shots, stopping 45 in a tough night between the pipes.
The win improves the Chiefs record to 5-1 and wraps up a demanding stretch of games. The Chiefs will look to keep rolling when they return home Tuesday night to face the Cobourg Kodiaks.
