Bomberry, Smith hat tricks power Chiefs past Brooklin

Davin Bomberry and Ryan Smith each netted hat tricks Tuesday night, leading the Six Nations Chiefs to a commanding 11-3 victory over the Brooklin Lacrosse Club in Major Series Lacrosse action at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.

The Chiefs wasted no time asserting themselves, striking for five goals in the opening period and setting the tone for a dominant performance on home floor. Smith scored twice in the first frame — including the game-winner just 1:14 in — while Bomberry opened the scoring two minutes in and later completed his hat trick in the third.

Balanced Attack, Tight Defense

The Chiefs’ offense came from all directions, with Josh Byrne and Lyle Thompson each chipping in a pair of goals, and Shayne Jackson adding a single. Theede, MacKay, and Dhane Smith also contributed multiple assists in a well-rounded offensive effort.

On the defensive end, Doug Jamieson was steady in goal, turning aside 40 of BLC’s 43 shots, including several key stops during BLC’s limited offensive surges.

Special Teams and Discipline Key

While Brooklin managed a pair of powerplay markers, the Chiefs kept their penalty minutes low and dominated at even strength. Six Nations killed off penalties efficiently and capitalized when given the chance.

Third-Period Surge

After a quieter middle frame, the Chiefs poured it on in the third, outscoring BLC 5-1 to put the game well out of reach. Thompson’s second goal of the night and Bomberry’s hat trick marker highlighted the final 20 minutes.

Up Next

With the win, the Chiefs are 3-1 and tied with BLC for second the MSL standings as the hunt for another Mann Cup title continues. The Chiefs travel to Owen Sound Saturday and Cobourg Sunday.
