Chiefs take home opener

The Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs kicked off its 25th season in Major Series Lacrosse in style Tuesday.
Showing off their retro-style jerseys, the Chiefs scored early ans often in a 14-3 romp over the Coburg Kodiaks.
The defending MSL and Mann Cup champions dominated the first period, with Craig Point leading the way with three goals, while Ryan Benesch, Jordan Durston and Vaughn Harries adding one each.
Although Andy Campbell got the scoring started in the second period for the Kodiaks, the Chiefs went back to work scoring six in a row, with Kyle Jackson netting a pair, while Harris, Brendan Bomberry, Wayne VanEvery and Benesch scored one each.
Colton Armstrong stopped the bleeding for the Kodiaks, but again the Chiefs had a response thanks to Harris and Shane Simpson.
John St. John scored the lone goal of the third period.
Brandon Miller made a triumphant return between the Chiefs pipes after needing to take last season off after having surgery. Miller was sharp stopping 31 shots to record the win.
The Chiefs are back in action, but on the road against the Brampton Excelsiors Thursday at 8 p.m.
They return to the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena Tuesday, when the Chiefs host the Oakville Rock at 8 p.m.

NOTES: Prior to the season opener, the Chiefs acquired Jackson from the Kodiaks. Last season in Coburg, Jackson played three games and scored five goals and three assists. Jackson played for the National Lacrosse League's Rochester Knighthawks this season. From Sarnia, he played for the University of Michigan and was the Knighthawks first-round selection (seventh overall) in the 2016 NLL Entry Draft.
