Chiefs three-peat Mann Cup with Game 7 win

 


For the second time in franchise history, the Six Nations Chiefs have won their third-straight Mann Cup championship thanks to a 10-7 win Saturday night over the New Westminster Salmonbellies at Queen's Park Arena.

The Chiefs capture its ninth Mann Cup in franchise history and needed seven games to do it for the first time.

Lyle Thompson and Dhane Smith were the offensive catalysts, while Doug Jamieson and the defence did its part down at the other end. Smith scored a pair of goals and had five assists, while Thompson earned the Player of the Game Award scoring three goals and three assists.

Thompson and Ryan Smith scored two first-period goals to lead the way, while Ian MacKay added one. Noah Armitage scored the lone Bellies goal.

 The Western Lacrosse Association champions didn't quit, coming back in the second period. Haiden Dickson, Tye Kurtz, Marcus Klarich, and Ryan Martel cut the lead. Kason Tarbell scored the lone Chiefs' goal.

After Mitch Jones tied things up early in the third period, the Chiefs went to work. Dhane Smith scored twice, while, MacKay, Thompson, Brendan Bomberry, and Tyson Bell added insurance.

Doug Jamieson had another great game, turning aside 43 shots.

Ryan Smith was named the Mann Cup Most Valuable Player. In the seven games, Smith scored 14 goals and 12 assists.
