Chiefs comeback falls short in Game 5
A seven-goal third period wasn't enough, as the New Westminster Salmonbellies held on for a 15-11 win over the Six Nations Chiefs Wednesday at Queen's Park Arena.
With the victory, the Bellies hold a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven Mann Cup championship series.
Graeme Hossack, Ian MacKay and Shayne Jackson scored for the Chiefs in the first period,. Ryan Martel, Will Malcom, Tye Kurtz, and Tyler Pace responded for the Bellies who scored with one second to go in the frame to take the lead.
After Randy Staats scored to tie things up early in the second period, it was all Bellies. Jeff Cornwall led the way with two goals, while Marcus Klarich, Malcom, Martel, Kurtz, and Mitch Jones added singles.
Tim Edwards got things going in third period, before Ryan Sheridan and Kurtz responded. Then teh Chiefs roared back in a big way. MacKay and Dawson theede scored two goals each, while Jackson and Ryan Smith got the Chiefs within striking distance. But it was too little too late, with Brandon Zgoodwin adding an empty-net goal.
With the day off Thursday, Game 6 is Friday night at 10:30pm EST.
