Knighthawks connection paces the way for Chiefs
There was a very Rochester Knighthawks-like flavour to the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs victory Tuesday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
While Eric Fannell scored four time and added a pair of assists, Cody Jamieson netted two and got assists on six others, as the Chiefs swept a home-and-home set with the Brampton Excelsiors 13-5.
Not to be outdone, their National Lacrosse League teammates also pitched in, with Quinn Powless scoring two goals and two assists, while Angus Goodleaf had two assists and made 24 saves for the win in Major Series Lacrosse action.
Fannell scored three goals in the first period, while Jamieson added a pair to pace the way in the first period.
Jordan Dance scored the lone Excelsiors goal.
Despite a goal by Daryl Veltman and Mike Burke in the first and last minute of the second period, the Chiefs dominated, with Staats, Shane Simpson, Powless and Dhane Smith adding to the lead.
In the third period, the Chiefs continued to impose their will on their guests. Brendan Bomberry, Frank Brown, Fannell, and Powless tacked on one goal each, while Dance and Dereck Downs responded for the Excelsiors.
Now unbeaten in five games, the Chiefs slowly move up the MSL standings and sit in a tie for second place with the Oakville Rock thanks to their 5-4-1 record.
Monday they are on the road for a showdown against the Rock, before facing the Excelsiors Tuesday at home.
