Chiefs come from behind to declaw Kodiaks
The third period has been kind to the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs as of late.
All tied up after 40 minutes, Ryan Benesch scored twice, while Kasey Beirnes, and
Colin Doyle added singles as the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs defeated the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks 11-7 Tuesday in front of over 300 fans at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
But to get the game tied, it was the Jeff Shattler show in the second period, when he scored three goals to lead the way, with Dhane Smith adding one.
Luke Laszkiewicz scored a pair, while Mitch Wilde, Corey Fowler and Scott Defrancesco netted one each.
In the first period, Johnny Powless, Benesch, and Brodie Merrill gave the Chiefs a lead, with Derek Searle and Defrancesco responding for the Kodiaks.
It was a tough night for Dillon Ward, who was chased from the game by his former teammates after giving up six goals. Brandon Miller came in and shut the door.
The Chiefs fired 57 shots at Kodiaks goalie Dave Diruscio.
With the win, the Chiefs improve to Major Series Lacrosse best 10-2 record. The win also clinches a playoff spot for the defending MSL and Mann Cup champions.
Thursday, the Chiefs are in Brampton to take on the Excelsiors, before traveling to Kitchener on Sunday. They return home July 14, when they host the Excelsiors at 8pm.
