Lakers take Game 1
The Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs were forced to play catch up and couldn't recover in Game 1 of the Major Series Lacrosse final.
The Chiefs were only able to get the lead once and kept it for only two minutes, as the Peterborough Lakers defeated them 9-7 to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven championship series,
Shawn Evans scored the first goal of the series two minutes in, before Colin Boucher and Vaughn Harris gave the Chiefs their only lead of the game.
Then it was the John Grant Jr. show, when he scored a pair of goals two minutes apart. and added another with two minutes remaining in the opening frame.
Cody Jamieson scored the other goal for the Chiefs.
In the second, rookie sensation Vaughn Harris continues to impress, when he cored his second goal of the game, while Jamieson did the same.
Brad Self and Matt Crough scored for the Lakers.
Jesse Gamble scored early in the third period to tie things up, before Chad Culp again gave the Lakers the lead. Harris added his third of the game, before Culp and Mark Steenhuis put the game away for the Lakers.
Matt Vinc got the win for the Lakers in a 49-save effort, while Evan Kirk made 31 stops for the Chiefs.
Game 2 of the series is at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena Saturday at 8 p.m.
