The Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs are looking more and more like the defending Mann Cup champions.
On Thursday night in Whitby, the Chiefs were again their defensively physical selves, while the offence kept clicking in a 10-6 win over the Brooklin Redmen.
With the win, the Chiefs lead the best-of-seven Major Series Lacrosse semifinal 3-0, and can wrap things up Saturday night at home.
While Kasey Beirnes netted three goals, Cody Jamieson, Jeff Shattler, and Colin Doyle each had four-point nights to lead the way offensively.
Stephen Keogh scored his second goal of the series a minute into the game, with Dan Linter responding 10 minutes later. Beirnes then took over, adding a pair of goal a minutes and a half apart to close out hte opening frame.
Curtis Knight gave the Redmen a bit of a spark early in the second period, but that was quickly extinguished thanks to Vaughn Harris, and Shattler, who both scored power-play goals. Jamieson also added a power-play marker late in the period after Shayne Jackson responded for the Redmen.
The Chiefs closed things out in the third period, with Tom Montour, Jamieson, Beirnes, and Dan Coates scoring goals, while Sheldon Burns, Jackson and Kiel Matisz tried to get the Redmen within striking distance.
Brandon Miller had another solid game guarding the Chiefs net, making 36 save to preserve the win. Mike Poulin got stuck with the loss in a 44-save effort.
