Veterans set to lead Chiefs
When the Six Nations Chiefs hit the floor on Monday for its home opener, there are going to be some very familiar faces leading the charge.
Chiefs president and general manager Duane Jacobs and coach Tim Bomberry have secured the commitments of Cody Jamieson, Randy Staats and Brendan Bomberry for the 2022 Major Series Lacrosse season.
“We are tremendously excited to get back on the floor and have the commitments of Cody, Randy and Brendan,” Jacobs said. “These guys are not only world-class players, they’re leaders on the floor and in the community. It was very important to have them on board as we move forward with our group.”
Jamieson was again a key cog in the wheel for the Halifax Thunderbirds during the National Lacrosse League season. In 16 games, the team’s captain scored 14 goals and 43 assists. Most importantly, Jamieson was the inspirational leader of the Thunderbirds, which is a role he will again have with the Chiefs.
Bomberry had another dynamic season with the NLL’s Georgia Swarm, scoring 26 goals and 36 assists in 18 games. Known for his highlight reel exploits, Bomberry hopes to do the same as one of the leaders for the Chiefs as they attempt to capture an MSL title.
Staats’ return is not only a welcome one for Chiefs fans, but for the lacrosse community. Injured last summer prior to the Premier Lacrosse League season, Staats has been sidelined throughout the NLL season. While his Panther City Lacrosse Club teammates took to the floor for their inaugural season, Staats was training at home and finally put on the active roster for the final game of the season but did not play. During Chiefs practice, Staats has looked great and in mid-season form.
On Monday, the Chiefs open the season against the Brooklin Lacrosse Club at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena as part of Bread and Cheese Day. Game time is 7:30pm. The game will also be available on Rogers Cable 20 or online CLICK HERE. Tickets for the game are available at the door and cost $5 for adults, seniors and youth. Children under 9 are free.
