Saturday was a banner day, where the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chie
fs those that helped build 25 successful years in Major Series Lacrosse.
With festivities planned for its Alumni Day, the Chiefs flexed its muscle in a 11-8 win over the Oakville Rock at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
It wasn't the start the Chiefs were hoping for though, with Brett Hickey, Rob Hellyer and Eric Fannell giving the Rock and early lead to silence the crowd.
After taking the Rock's opening punch, the Chiefs threw back thanks to a pair of Jordan Durston goals and singles from Randy Staats and Ryan Benesch.
The Rock started the second period much the same way, with Jeremy Noble scoring a pair to grab another lead.
But the Chiefs quickly responded with Durston scoring his third of the game, while Craig Point junior B star Layne Smith adding a goal to give the hosts a two-goal lead after 40 minutes.
Smith then scored his second goal of the game to open the third period scoring. The marker was the junior star's fifth goal in two games for the Chiefs. Staats, Point and Dave Brock added to the Chiefs lead, while Nobel, Hickey and Matt Lee responded for the Rock.
Brandon Miller got the win between the Chiefs pipes, while his National Lacrosse League teammate, Steve Fryer took the loss for the Rock.
The Chiefs now own a one-point lead over the Peterborough Lakers for first place in Major Series Lacrosse thanks to its 12-1-1 record.
