Thanks to Jeff Shattler forcing overtime with eight seconds remaining, Grant scored two minutes into the 10 minute extra period. Roger Vyse blew a shot by Tyler Carlson to again tie things up, before Grant netted the winner on the power play with a minute and a half to go.
Craig Point got things going early for the Chiefs, scoring just under three minutes into the game. Shawn Evans tied things up, before Kasey Beirnes and Andrew Suitor exchanged goals to end the period.
Evans added two more goals to start the second period, before Shattler netted two of his own. Cory Vitarelli and Matt Crough gave the Lakers another lead. But the Chiefs again struck back, this time with Cody Jamieson and Stephen Keogh responding.
In the third period, Jamieson got the Chiefs ahead five minutes in, before Vitarelli and Adam Jones regained the lead for the visitors, setting up Shattler's late-game heroics.
Carlson, filling in for the absent Matt Vinc was at times spectacular, thwarting off 39 Chiefs shots, while Evan Kirk was equally as good in a 40-save effort.
Game 7 of the best-of-seven series to host the Mann Cup is in Peterborough Sunday at 8p.m.
