Austin Staats leads Chiefs over Lakers
Austin Staats was in on seven goals as he led the Six Nations Chiefs to a 8-5 win over the Peterborough Lakers Tuesday in Major Series Lacrosse action.
The Lakers got on the board first when Thomas Hoggarth converted a Holden Cattoni pass at 56 seconds, but was answered by Lyle Thompson with a power-play blast finishing an Austin Staats feed at 2:56.
Austin Hasen regained the lead for the Lakers converting a Tyler Pace pass at 6:40, but once again was answered by Austin Staats who scored off a Randy Staats behind the back feed at 11:06.
The Chiefs opened the second period scoring with Brendan Bomberry converting a Cody Jamieson pass that came from behind the net at 0:47 seconds, but a transition tic-tac-toe play started by Robert Hope soon tied the game. Hope passed to Holden Cattoni, who fed Hoggarth with his second of the night at 5:15. Taite Cattoni then gave the Lakers the lead off a Thomas Whitty feed at 6:10.
Lyle Thompson scored his second of the night with a great individual effort going side to side around the crease off an Austin Staats pass at 7:53, followed by Randy Staats converting an Austin Staats feed from in close at 10:45. Austin Staats increased the lead on the power-play with a howitzer from the outside off a Lyle Thompson pass at 16:34.
The Lakers opened the third period scoring with great ball movement on the power-play. Turner Evans finished an Austin Hasen feed at 7:07 to bring the game within one goal.
Six Nations answered with two quick goals. Austin Staats scored off a Cody Jamieson feed at 10:10, followed by Randy Staats finishing off a Charlie Scanlon pass at 11:40 to give the Chiefs a bit of breathing room.
