A seven goal run, four power-play goals, backed by the defence and goalie Kevin Orleman lifted the Cobourg Kodiaks to a 11-9 win over the Six Nations Chiefs Wednesday at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre.

Cam Milligan got the Kodiaks going early before Nonkon Thompson and Tehoka Nanticoke gave the Chiefs their only lead of the game part way through the first quarter.

Then the defence sealed things up and a balanced attack led to a seven-goal run, giving the Kodiaks plenty of wiggle room. Bennett Drake’s pair led the way, while Jeff Henrick, Dylan Hutchison, Travis Longboat, Skkylar Thomas and Carter Badour all added singles.

Nanticoke stopped the bleeding with just under 11 minutes to go in the third quarter. After Hutchison added his second of the game, the Chiefs began its comeback attempt, led by two more Nanticoke goals, as well as a pair from Austin Staats, and one from Brendan Bomberry to get the Chiefs within a goal.

But Thomas and Cam Mancini added to the Kodiaks lead, putting the game out of reach despite a valiant effort from the Chiefs, with Kedoh Hill inching his team within two late in the game.

The Kodiaks end the MSL Classic on a high note and a 5-3 record, which will end up second-best in the tournament. The Chiefs finish the MSL Classic at 3-5 and in third place.
