Mark Matthews scored five goals, including the winner with two seconds remaining in regulation, to give the Peterborough Lakers a 13-12 win over the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs Tuesday at the Evinrude Centre.
Matthews' heroics outdid four-goal efforts from Cody Jamieson and Shayne Jackson. Randy Staats returned to the lineup scoring two goals, while Dhane Smith and Brendan Bomberry netted one each.
The Lakers got two goals from Joe Resetarits, while singles went to Shawn Evans, Holden Cattoni, Josh Courrier, Nick Weiss, Kiel Matisz, and Zach Courrier.
The Lakers now lead the best-of-seven Major Series Lacrosse final 3-2. Game 6 is Thursday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena at 8pm, and Game 7 is Monday, in Peterborough at 5pm.
