Chiefs look sharp in opener with win over Rock

Wenster Green scored the winner with about eight minutes left in regulation, while Cody Jamieson led the offensive charge with a four-point night to help the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs to a 10-8 victory over the Oakville Rock in the season opener for both Major Series Lacrosse teams at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
The Chiefs got scoring from a number of sources, including two goals each from Leland Powless, and Jordan Durston. Jamieson, Kyle Jackson, Zed Williams, Green, Gates Abrams, and Tyson Bell all added one each.
Doug Jamieson played a huge part in the win, shutting down the Rock in the third period, as he faced 50 shots on the night, while the Chiefs fired 38 at Nick Rose.
Cory Highfield and Andrew Kew each scored a pair for the Rock, while singles went to Brandon Slade, Matt VanGalen, Ryan Smith, and Dallas Bridle.
The same two teams will meet again Monday, this time at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville. The Chiefs will then return home Tuesday, when they host the defending Mann Cup champion Peterborough Lakers. Both games begin at 8pm.
