Dougie with the shutout in statement opening win

Thanks in part to Doug Jamieson, Chris Cloutier and Andrew Kew, the Six Nations Chiefs made a statement to open the 2026 Major Series Lacrosse season.

Playing before a packed crowd at the annual Bread and Cheese Game Monday night at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, the Chiefs dominated from start to finish in a convincing 12-0 victory over the Owen Sound North Stars.

With Jamieson turning aside every shot he faced for the shutout, Six Nations overwhelmed Owen Sound with relentless offensive pressure throughout the night. Cloutier recorded a hat trick, while Kew scored three times and added helpers in a dominant opening-night effort.

The goaltending matchup featured Jamieson for Six Nations opposite Andrew Kidd for Owen Sound, and despite a determined opening effort from the North Stars, the Chiefs’ depth and pace quickly took control.

Kew opened the scoring at the 4:00 mark of the first period, blasting home an outside shot off a feed from Dawson Theede. Less than two minutes later, Ryan Smith followed with an impressive individual effort to make it 2-0.

The Chiefs continued to press late in the period as Dhane Smith scored from the slot off a pass from Josh Byrne at 17:26 before Theede ripped a high-to-low blast unassisted at 19:15 to give Six Nations a commanding 4-0 lead after one period.

The second period turned into a complete takeover by the defending powerhouse.

Kew struck twice early in the frame, first wiring a shot off a Ryan Smith feed at 1:12 before adding a shorthanded marker from in close off a pass from Tyson Bell at 3:28.

Byrne extended the lead to 7-0 with a laser off a Kew setup at 6:34, and Cloutier quickly followed just 40 seconds later, finishing another Kew feed from the side of the net.

Cloutier buried his second goal of the period off a Dhane Smith pass at 10:34 as the Chiefs continued to pour on the pressure. Byrne then capped the explosive middle frame in spectacular fashion, diving across the crease to beat the buzzer off a Cloutier pass with just one second remaining, sending Six Nations into the second intermission with a 10-0 advantage.

Owen Sound turned to Caleb Martin in relief of Kidd to begin the third period, but the Chiefs attack never slowed.

Dhane Smith added his second of the night midway through the frame, blasting home a high-to-low shot off a feed from Matt Marinier at 7:19. Cloutier completed the hat trick at 15:24, finishing a pass from Theede to close out the scoring.

When the final horn sounded, Jamieson’s shutout performance completed a dominant season-opening effort for Six Nations, improving the Chiefs to 1-0 on the young Major Series Lacrosse season while Owen Sound fall to 0-1.

The Chiefs are back in action Thursday, when they hit the road against the Peterborough Lakers at 8pm.
