Marshal King was on a mission in Game 1 of the Mann Cup championship Friday at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
King scored six times and added one helper to lead the Victoria Shamrocks to a 9-8 win over the Six Nations Chiefs.
With the win, the Western Lacrosse Association champions lead the best-of-seven national senior A box lacrosse championship 1-0.
King, Chris Wardel and Nick Preston gave the Shamrocks an early first-period lead. Cody Jamieson, Travis Longboat and Lyle Thompson responded for the Chiefs.
Shayne Jackson got the Chiefs off to a good start in the second period. But the Shamrocks went on another run thanks to four-straight goals from King.
King continued to roll in the third period, before his brother Jesse got in on the action. The Chiefs began to fight back, with Lyle Thompson scoring three goals to lead the way. Longboat also added another goal.
Chris Origlieri was strong between the Shamrocks pipes making 47 saves. Doug Jamieson picked up the loss despite a strong 51 stop performance.
Game 2 of the series is Saturday at 7pm at the ILA.
