Cody Jamieson led by example scoring a hat trick, while Shayne Jackson scored the winner as the Six Nations Chiefs battled through adversity to come away with a 13-11 win over the New Westminster Salmonbellies Saturday in front of another packed house at Queen's Park Arena.

With the victory, the Chiefs lead the best-of-seven Mann Cup championship series 2-0.

BOXSCORE

The Salmonbellies came out hard, with Mitch Jones scoring two times in the first period to pace the Western Lacrosse Association champs to a one-goal edge after 20 minutes. Will Malcolm scored the other Bellies goal, while Lyle Thompson and Brendan Bomberry responded for the Chiefs.

The two teams kept exchanging goals in the second period, with the exception of the Chiefs going on a two-goal run midway through the frame. Dhane Smith, Jackson, Jamieson, Thompson, and Bomberry scored to knot the game after two periods. Ryan Martel, Anthony Malcolm, Brandon Goodwin, and Jeff Cornwall scored for the Bellies.

In a wild third period, Jackson finally iced the game with a laser-like shot and beat Zach Higgins with just over a minute to play in regulation time, before Tim Edwards iced things with the empty-netter. During the last period, the Bellies show a ton of grit, tying things up four times before Jackson's winner. Jamieson scored twice during the final 20 minutes, while Ben McIntosh scored the other Chiefs' marker. Will Malcolm also scored twice in the period for the Bellies, while Mike Messenger, and Jeff Cornwall responded with one each.

It was Warren Hill's turn to defend the pipes for the Chiefs, and he was named Player of the Game thanks to his 41-save performance. Higgins made 39 stops in a brilliant effort.

the two teams will take a day off Sunday, with the Mann Cup final series reconvening Monday at QPA. Game time is 10:30pm EST.
