Six-point night for Durston leads Chiefs to win over Excelsiors

Jordan Durston is showing no signs of a sophomore jinx.
The second-year forward scored two goals and added four assists to lead the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs to a 14-11 road win over the Brampton Excelsiors.
The victory improves the Chiefs to 2-0 in the early going of the Major Series Lacrosse season.
It was a game of runs in the first period, with the Excelsiors jumping out to a quick lead thanks to Jordan Dance, Phillip Caputo and Bennett Drake scoring in the opening 1:38.
A couple of minutes later, the Chiefs heated up, responding with five goals of their own. Wayne VanEvery, Vaughn Harris, Durston, Ryan Benesch and Craig Point scored goals.
Just after the midway point of hte frame, the Excelsiors answered with Matt Bennett and Brandon Robinson.
If fans thought there was lots of scoring in the opening period, the flood gates opened in the next 20 minutes, with both teams combining for 14 goals.
Benesch, Point, Pat Corbett, and Harris all scored twice, while Rob Marshall added one.
Liam Byrnes responded for the Excelsiors with a pair of goals, while Tyler Fereira, Jayson Crawford, Drake, and Caputo netted one goal each.
In the third period, Durston scored his second goal of the game.
Brandon Miller got his second start of the season and made 47 stops for the win, while Nolan Clayton took the loss after being peppered with 78 shots and 64 saves.
The Chiefs will now return home Tuesday, when they face the Oakville Rock at 8 p.m. at the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena.
