Brock traded to Kodiaks PLUS draft notes
David Brock is heading back to the organization that started it all for him.
Last week, the Six Nations Pro-Fit Chiefs traded the very popular defender, as well as Paxton Leroux to the Coburg Kodiaks, in exchange for Broedie Birkhof and a third-round pick in the 2020 Major Series Lacrosse draft.
"Dave Brock provided the team with six steady seasons and helped with three Mann Cups. Unfortunately, we need to make room for our younger players, acquiring a third-round pick in a deep 2020 draft made sense for us. We wish Brocky all the best," Chiefs president Duane Jacobs said. "Birkoff is as tough as they come and at 25, has some good years ahead of him."
Brock took to Twitter after the deal was done.
"Three Mann Cups in a six-year stint the the Chiefs. Thanks for the memories."
Before Brock's tenure with the Chiefs, he was a member of the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks, making his debut in the 2009 playoffs, and played three seasons with them before being acquired by the Chiefs in 2013.
Leroux, from Peterborough, has returned to lacrosse after a short minor pro hockey career.
He signed a one-year contract with the Rochester Knighthawks in 2018 but was released after training camp. Leroux also played junior A Peterborough Lakers, while playing in the Ontario Hockey League for the London Knights and Kitchener Rangers.
2019 MSL DRAFT
Much like this off season so far, the Chiefs were very quiet at the annual MSL Draft.
The Chiefs brass waited until the fourth round to make a move, selecting John Wagner 22nd overall, before taking Trevor Stacey in the fifth round, with the 28th overall pick.
Wagner played for the Six Nations Arrows of the Ontario Junior A Lacrosse League last season. In six games he had two goals and two assists.
Wagner was also a standout in field lacrosse south of the border at Marquette. In 2018 he was the team's captain and was named All-Big East First Team after scoring 30 goals.
Stacey capped his junior lacrosse career last season with the St. Catharines Athletics. the defender from Kahnawake also played for the Arrows and Kahnawake Hunters.
